Radiant’s Kaleidos is a factory-assembled, containerised helium-cooled HTGR (~1 MWe / ~3.5 MWt) using TRISO fuel. Fuel arrived at INL DOME 1 July 2026 for a five-phase full-power / full-temperature programme (including ≥150 hours at full power without operator intervention). Vendor target: customer deployments around 2028. US licensing, export, and EU/Cyprus siting are open. Not in AGICY CapEx. Not required for COD.
Why energy-to-AI investors should even read this
PV + BESS covers anytime solar. Firm zero-carbon megawatts for a 42 MW-class campus are a different problem. Portable microreactors are being sold to militaries, remote grids, and — increasingly — datacenter resilience narratives. Kaleidos is one of the few designs actually in a US national-lab fueled-test queue in 2026. That is a signal, not a purchase order.

9 Feb 2026: DOE approval of Radiant’s DARK / PDSA-intent package — second of three safety submittals toward DOME startup.
1 Jul 2026: First TRISO tranche, fabricated by Standard Nuclear (Oak Ridge) to Radiant specs, received at NRIC DOME, Idaho National Laboratory. Radiant states it is the only developer testing at DOME in this window. Five phases: zero-power criticality → 1 MW thermal → full power → full heat → ≥150 h unattended full power.
2028: Vendor commercial / first-customer language. NRC Part 70 review for the R-50 Oak Ridge fueling building has been described as accelerated (target late 2026 in ANS coverage). None of this is an EU licence.
Long-term vision — and the honesty line
If portable HTGRs clear US testing and export, they could become a behind-the-meter firm block for later phases — diesel-replacement class, not a GW utility plant. Is AGICY buying Radiant reactors?
No. Watchlist mention only. Not CapEx, not COD, not an endorsement.
Does a US microreactor solve EU sovereignty?
No. US-origin fuel, licensing, and possible CLOUD Act-adjacent vendor services are diligence items. Residency of a box is not EU nuclear law.
